(BGO)- On June 4, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) led by Le Minh Hoan, member of the Party Central Committee, MARD Minister inspected implementation of the National Target Programmes on building new-style rural areas, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas and sustainable poverty reduction in Luc Ngan district and visited some lychee growing models in northern province of Bac Giang.
The working delegation took a field trip to Ho Dap commune, Luc Ngan district, where is home to over 1,000 households including 75.5 percent of ethnic minorities.
Minister Le Minh Hoan and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong visit a lychee garden of Tran Van Hanh in Chao village, Giap Son commune.
Bac Giang province has a concentrated lychee growing area covering 29,700 hectares, accounting for 54.8 percent of the total fruit growing area in the entire province, the largest lychee orchard in Vietnam. The lychee productivity this year is expected to reach more than 180,000 tonnes (particularly Luc Ngan district has over 17,000 hectares of lychee yielding an output of 98,000 tonnes).
For consumption of lychee, the MARD was requested to support Bac Giang province to call for participation of businesses in lychee consumption linkage to export to new markets and help to promote consumption of lychee in Vietnam and abroad.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Le Minh Hoan directed the agencies and units under the Ministry to grasp the opinions and recommendations to advise the Minister to submit the Government and National Assembly for appropriate adjustment. He requested the province to continue exploiting its potentials and advantages to propose effective farming models and methods to improve people’s living standard.
On the same day Minister Le Minh Hoan visited the lychee farming tourism model of Giap Son Farm Production and Ecological Tourism Cooperative in Chao village, Giap Son commune. The Minister highly evaluated the potentials, initiative and method in tourism business of the Cooperative and households.
Besides, he urged the locality, travel agents and local people to pay more attention to high-quality lychee production procedures and training to improve tourism services. The Minister suggested creating tourism products, souvenir and appropriate commodities which are easy to transport to serve tourists.
He added garden tourism also helps to change farmers’ mindset of doing farm work to bring dynamism and civilization from city to countryside while giving chances for tourists to enjoy nature with meaningful feelings and experience. The Minister requested Bac Giang province to continue paying attention and facilitating to improving quality of the tourism products in lychee season contributing to promoting and developing its agricultural potentials and advantages.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong also highly spoke on creative methods of the travel agent and Giap Son Farm Production and Ecological Tourism Cooperative. He added, Bac Giang province will revise to evaluate the farming tourism model and support the localities to expand and improve quality of the models combining lychee production with tourism.
