On October 15, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan congratulated newly appointed diplomats at a receiving and working session with ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative missions abroad.

The Covid-19 epidemic exemplifies the world’s unforecasted transformation, which requires all sectors to quickly absorb knowledge, be adaptable, and flexible rather than developing fixed plans.

Thus, in the fourth quarter, the MARD presents to the Prime Minister for approval the Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy with a 2030 vision and a 2050 vision. The visionary strategy will serve as a framework for agricultural development, ensuring that agriculture thrives far more than a pillar of the economy. According to the Minister, agriculture – rural regions – farmers must be seen differently, more comprehensively, approaching from the terms of culture and community, rather than just economic framework.

Citing examples from Israel and Japan, which lack abundant natural resources and are prone to natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes, but have developed successful agricultural models through a spirit of cooperation, creativity, and determination, the two countries have agricultural models that are worth for learning.

“We need to collect the unique features and characteristics of other nations in order to build our own based on human factors and unique traits. I’d like to state it as the MARD’s first order for ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative missions abroad.”

The Minister urged ambassadors to provide information, opinions, and evaluations on the agricultural situation in other countries in addition to their mision of assisting in the connection of trade and investment, particularly in the agricultural goods sector.

“If we want to develop a long-term, fundamental market entrance plan, we must first get a knowledge of the market’s character. We aim  to link in such a way that the image of Vietnamese agricultural goods crystallizes around the temperament and spirit of the Vietnamese.  Thus, we are no longer market an agricultural product, but rather to promote the country and its people to our international friends. That is even more critical because it takes a business plan forward in a sustainable manner,” Minister Le Minh Hoan said.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed his honor at accepting the Party and State’s responsibilities. Given the magnitude of the job and the fact that agriculture has become a major sector of the Vietnamese economy, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said that collaboration between the two ministries is critical. Thus, the units must continue to exchange in depth in order to get an agreement on methods of thinking and doing things.

Additionally, the ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative missions abroad reaffirmed their commitment to doing everything possible to complete the task, while outlining the objectives and potentials for acting as a bridge to assist MARD in removing the IUU (Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing) yellow card, expanding export opportunities to potential markets, and promoting cooperation projects to develop agroforestry-fishery products in untapped markets.
