Field visit and demonstration activities at Agritechnica Asia Live 2022

(VAN) On the morning of August 25, rice farming models that apply scientific and technical advances in farming as well as the latest synchronous mechanization solutions are introduced at the Mekong Delta Rice Institute.

 

Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Le Minh Hoan goes to the fields to see equipments directly demonstrate the stages in agricultural production. At the event, there are also thousands of farmers from 13 provinces and city in the Mekong Delta region.

The Agritechnica Asia Live 2022 event is organized to promote the application of mechanization and digital agriculture to transform sustainable agricultural production, and at the same time contribute to the transformation of agricultural production thinking into an agricultural economy in Vietnam.

Among many activities, the production models and demonstrations of machines in the field that have been implemented at the Mekong Delta Rice Institute are contributing to the overall success of the event.

Besides, the presented mechanized equipments will directly demonstrate the stages in agricultural production, such as tillage; cluster charging; fertilizing, spraying with drone; combine harvester, etc.

All models and demonstration activities at the Mekong Delta Rice Institute will last till the end of August 26, 2022.

Applying mechanization in the sowing stage and synchronous technical advances in rice cultivation in order to save seeds, fertilizers, and labor, help the rice plants to be healthy, grow well, have fewer pests and diseases, and limit fall in the field. Thus, contributing to increasing rice production efficiency, reducing environmental impact and increasing income for rice farmers.c

 

In Wet season 2022, Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute carry out demonstration of new rice varieties OM with objective: introduction, test and collect new rice varieties with outstanding characteristics, powerful for production development, supplement to the seasonal structure of the Mekong Delta and some surrounding areas. The rice varieties demonstrated with short growing time (85-100 days) include groups of premium quality, high-quality, high-yielding rice varieties, sticky rice and Japonica rice varieties. The total number of demonstration rice varieties was 16, of which OM4900 and OM5451 were used as controls.

 

Bringing to the event Agritechnica Asia Live 2022 in Can Tho Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company – Dau Trau fertilizer brand is the largest NPK producer and trader in the country, with an annual output of nearly 1 million tons of fertilizer. From 2016 up to now, the Company has cooperated with the National Agriculture Center and the Center for Science in 13 provinces to implement the program of smart rice farming to adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta. With 491 models on a total area of 245.5 hectares have been implemented. GIC is doing the model demonstration of innovative rice farming techniques in Mekong Delta, make a comparation between agronomic and economic effectiveness with the objectives to indicate the innovative rice farming techniques in the context of sustainable production to upgrade the Mekong Delta rice value chain to convince farmers to adopt techniques, achieve quality requirements-MRL achievement with high quality market in EU and US, reduce production cost, increase income and reduce emissions.

 

Mechanized direct seeding for increasing rice productivity and decreasing the impacts on the environment (The technology is developed by IRRI, CLRRI, and APV Austria). With the goals: Reduce seeding rate >50% compared with the common broadcast seeding practice in Vietnam; Reduce fertilizer use by 20-30%. Reduce risk of pest/ diseases and shelters; No loss of productivity; Reduce GHG emissions from 10 to 25%.
