The model of growing Artemisia japonica Thunb brings economic value to farmers, preserving the value of precious medicinal plants

(BAFU) – On the afternoon of March 23rd, 2023, Bac Giang Agriculture and Forestry University held an Acceptance meeting of the provincial -level project on Research and evaluation of agro-biological characteristics and medicinal values ​​of Artemisia japonica Thunb (Cây Ngải) grown in Son Dong district, Bac Giang province by Dr. Nguyen Tuan Duong – the Project manager.

An overview of the Acceptance meeting

The project was carried out from May 2021 to March 2023. The survey results show that Artemisia japonica Thunb has been currently grown and distributed in 04 communes: An Lac, Huu San, Duong Huu and Tay Yen Tu of Son Dong district. After analyzing soil, water samples and soil profile for growing Artemisia japonica Thunb, it is relatively safe, the content of heavy metals is low, the content of toxic substances for plants do not exist at the topsoil thickness of 50-70cm with high humus content, these are the appropriate conditions for growing medicinal plants.

Artemisia japonica Thunb is the bitter-tasting plant used for medicinal purposes to reduce pain, swelling and to treat digestion problems, intestinal worms, skin infections… Besides, it brings high economic value with a profit of 60 million/ha/crop, improving the quality of life and creating stable jobs for farmers in Son Dong district.
