Pioneering in the high-tech farming and aquaculture field

On April 12, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and worked with the High-tech Agricultural Park in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park is among the 10 national pioneering high-tech agricultural zones in the field of farming, aquaculture and has established a gene conservation bankto reserve rare and precious plant varieties, breeds for scientific research, hybridization, production, creating new sources of varieties with outstanding characteristics and high economic value. In this farm, over 100 technical processes have been completed, ready to be transfered to units, organizations and individuals that have development needs in the field of hi-tech agriculture.

By the end of 2021, businesses operating in the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Agricultural Park and its affiliated units have produced and supplied over 369 tons of F1 seeds of all kinds; over 6 million F1 cantaloupe seeds; providing 10-20 million orchid seedlings annually; supplying 3-5 million fingerlings/year… These products have high productivity, quality, ensure food safety, good disease resistance…, and meet the requirements to serve domestic consumption and export.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park has transferred to more than 65 organizations, businesses, farmer households in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces, the Central Highlands, the Central Coast region, the northern provinces models and automation application processes on vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants such as drip irrigation systems, edible mushrooms and medicinal mushrooms…

The Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park has also attracted and connected over 30 experts in many different fields to advise, orient scientific research, support businesses to perfect technology, market research consulting, business models and distribution channels building… Additionally, it implemented over 408 scientific research projects at grassroots, provincial/city and ministerial levels; focusing research on main target groups such as vegetable, flowers, ornamental fish, medicinal plants, edible mushrooms, medicinal mushrooms, biological products varieties serving the fields of crop cultivation and aquaculture.

In addition, investors in Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park also carry out scientific research activities at the unit on the production of vegetable, flower and mushroom varieties; the process of cultivating safe vegetables and flowers according to VietGAP standards, biological products for cultivation, animal husbandry and aquaculture.

On the other hand, it consults and supports over 2,000 organizations, individuals interested in business incubation programs in different fields. The rate of businesses graduating from the successful incubation program is over 60% of the total number of businesses participating in incubation.

Mr. Pham Dinh Dung, Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park said that in the past, the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park has promoted cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to deploy agricultural models applying high technology including the IoT application model in shrimp farming; technical model of growing cantaloupe; Hoa Loc sand mango planting model; chili growing, edible and medicinal mushrooms growing; aquaponic model… in Binh Chanh, Cu Chi, Can Gio districts. Thereby, they introduced and spread high technology application in agriculture to organizations, cooperatives and farmer households in the area.

In the future, Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park strives to attract investment in the fields of research, development and application of high technology to production in the agricultural sector. Thereby, improving the research, transfer, application and creation capacity of high-tech products for the development of the cultivation, husbandry and aquaculture fields in association with safe product value chain, contributing to the application of research results, technological advancements to production in order to improve product value and increase income for farmers.

In addition, develop into a place of comprehensive research, transfer, application in high-tech agricultural production to guide, orient the agriculture of Ho Chi Minh City and the region towards modernity, serving commodity production, with high productivity, quality, sustainable efficiency and high competitiveness, creating a driving force to spread technology, with the mindset to develop agriculture in a safer, more efficient and sustainable direction, contributing to the promotion of endogenous capacity in science, technology and science, technology services of Ho Chi Minh City across the country, comparable to other countries in the region and worldwide.

At the meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park on April 12, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc strongly commends the achievements by the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park, especially in the production of seeds, seedlings, food plants and fresh flowers to put into production.

Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park has contributed to the development of agriculture in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast in both quality and quantity; pioneering in the fields of farming and aquaculture towards sustainable urban agriculture development, overcoming seasonality and adapting to climate change.

“This is also the necessary path of Vietnamese agriculture. Additionally, the mission of Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park is not only limited to promoting high-tech agriculture in Ho Chi Minh City, but to also plays a role in leading the agricultural transformation of the East and Southwest regions towards quality, value, environmental friendliness”, emphasized President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

According to the President, this is a very important mission, not only in greenhouses or in a small area. Although agriculture in Ho Chi Minh City accounts for only a very small proportion of the City’s GRDP (gross regional domestic product), in the long run, Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park is one of the 10 hi-tech agricultural zones leading the country. Therefore, the mission of Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park needs to be clear with specific activities.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested the City Party Committee, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Management Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park to be more proactive in mobilizing resources, focusing on social resources to develop the city’s agriculture towards modernity. Research and form Hi-tech Agricultural models with attractive mechanisms for all participants.

Additionally, strengthen the infrastructure to develop high-tech agricultural parks, form multi-functional high-tech agricultural parks, develop high-tech tourism; replicate the high-tech agricultural model in Can Gio and Binh Chanh districts in the future. Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City also needs to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of management for the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park, strictly handle businesses that do not implement the project as committed and on schedule.

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park continue to promote cooperation with domestic and foreign institutes, universities to improve the value chain; train excellent scientists in the field of research and development. On the other hand, it is necessary to advise on the development policy of high-tech agriculture, especially for new products and new varieties with high value, it is necessary to have a policy to apply in practice. In addition, it is necessary to replicate high-level research studies, put them into application, popularize and create effectiveness in practice.

“Research is needed to serve the people. When efficiency is multiplied, research value has great practical significance. That is exactly what people need. The Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Agricultural Park must lead and orient the agriculture of Ho Chi Minh City and the region to develop itowards modernity. What starts from these high-tech parks will contribute to changing Ho Chi Minh City’s agriculture and Vietnam’s agriculture”, emphasized President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
