(BGO) – In the book “Some theoretical and practical issues about socialism and the path towards socialism in Vietnam”, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong continued to affirm and clarify that “Democracy is the nature of the socialist regime as well as the goal and the driving force of the cause of socialism building”. This is one of the core arguments about the nature of socialist democracy and building a socialist democracy in our country today.
Since its inception, the Communist Party of Vietnam has always determined that the path that the Vietnamese revolution has pursued is the path of national independence in association with socialism. That is the way to bring independence, freedom, fairness, democracy, prosperity and happiness to the people.

Democracy is the nature of the socialist regime that our entire Party, army and people have already and will continue to consistently and persistently build. Inheriting and developing progressive views on democracy in the history of human thought, Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, the work of the Party General Secretary has explained, clarified, developed and perfected the theory and reality of democracy in a socialist society that our people are aiming for.
In his work, the Party leader affirmed the consistent view of our Party that “Socialism is the goal and ideal of the Communist Party and people of Vietnam. Going towards socialism is an objective requirement and an inevitable path of the Vietnamese revolution” and “the socialist society that the Vietnamese people are striving for is a society of prosperous people in a strong nation characterized by democracy, fairness, and civilization.
It’s a society where the people are the masters, with a highly-developed economy based on modern production forces and appropriate and progressive production relations. It has an advanced culture imbued with national identity, with prosperous, free, and happy people who are blessed with opportunities for comprehensive development.
Ethnic groups in the Vietnamese community are equal, united, respectful and supportive of each other. It features a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, and for the people led by the Communist Party and has friendly and cooperative ties with countries all over the world”.
Our country is focusing on developing a socialist-oriented market economy with the basic characteristics and important attributes of “associating the economy with society, matching economic policies with social ones, and ensuring economic growth goes hand in hand with the realization of social progress and equality in every step and every policy and throughout the development process”.
At the same time, we see “culture as the spiritual foundation of society, the endogenous strength and the driving force for national development and national defense. We identify that developing culture synchronously in harmony with economic growth and social progress and equality is a fundamental orientation of the process of building socialism in Vietnam.
All guidelines of the Party, policies and laws of the State are from the people and for the sake of the people, and take the people’s happiness as a goal.
“The political model and general operating mechanism are the Party’s leadership, the State’s management and the people’s mastery”. Democracy is the nature of the socialist regime, as well as the goal and the driving force of the cause of socialism building. Building a socialist democracy and ensuring that power truly belongs to the people is an important and long-term task of the Vietnamese revolution.
We plan to unceasingly promote democracy and speed up the construction and perfection of a socialist rule-of-law State of the people, by the people and for the people. Accordingly, the State represents the people’s mastery and has mechanisms for the people to exercise their direct mastery and representative democracy in all fields of social life and participate in social management.
With the method of dialectical science, systematic thinking, and logical presentation, the Party General Secretary analyzed, systematized, and had new theoretical perspectives, ideas and perceptions about socialism and the path towards socialism, in which social democracy is one of the core issues that demonstrates the good nature of the socialist regime. It is creatively applied to the specific historical situation of Vietnam to build a society with all for human development; a prosperous, free and happy life of the people; and sustainable development.
The current reality shows that the objectives set by the Party and State in building socialism in general and promoting socialist democracy in particular have been gradually realized. The people in all regions of the country have always received attention, been provided with the most favourable conditions for development, and have had their rights and legitimate interests guaranteed.
