(BGO) – In the national contest for excellent students in the school year 2022-2023, Bac Giang students won four first, 14 second, 16 third and 25 consolation prizes. The four first prize winners are all studying at the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted and are trying their best to become members of the national teams attending regional and international Olympic competitions.
Tran Quang Hung (12th Chemistry class): Wishing to become a programmer
Three years ago, Tran Quang Hung was the valedictorian of the Chemistry class in the entrance exam to the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted. In the new environment, the smart student quickly integrated into the exciting learning atmosphere.
In the 11th grade, Hung won the third prize in the national contest for excellent students and a silver medal in the completion for excellent students from the high schools for the gifted in the northern coastal and delta region. That was the motivation for Hung to strive for higher achievements.
With the guidance of teachers and support from friends, Hung searched for more types of exam questions in the school library and prestigious websites. He observed and tried to explain the surrounding phenomena by chemical knowledge. For Hung, learning is a top priority, but it is necessary to balance between learning and playing. In his spare time, he often plays volleyball to improve his fitness.

With this first prize, Tran Quang Hung was admitted directly to a number of universities in the country. When finishing high school, he plans to enroll in information technology major of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Giap Vu Son Ha (11th Chemistry class): Learning is always motivation and joy
Giap Vu Son Ha is one of two students from the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted to win the first prize in Chemistry. Meeting him in the day after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the prizes, Son Ha happily said: “Winning the first prize in Chemistry in my first participation in the national contest for excellent students made me very surprised and happy. This gift, I would like to give to my family and teachers, who always accompany, teacher and trust me.”
Despite being small and quiet, Son Ha is a very smart boy. Right in his 10th grade, through lessons in the class, teachers discovered his special qualities, so they focused on fostering him. Talking about the past exam, the male student said that the exam had many tough questions with high differentiation. However, during the test, he always remained calm and kept my best performance. As a result, Son Ha scored 30 out of 40 points.
To the teachers, Son Ha is a smart, brave student who always has a source of positive energy. After each class lesson, he often plays chess and football with his friends. In the evening at home, he usually spend 3-4 hours on studying. Winning excellent results at the national contest for excellent students in the first time made Son Ha feel comfortable to conquer bigger playgrounds.
Than The Cong (11th Physics class): Always defining goals to fulfill
Among the four first prize winners, Than The Cong is rather calm and humble. He got 28.75 out of 40 points, ranking in the top four students with the highest scores in the whole country in Physics. Sharing great joy, Cong’s mother Nguyen Thi Kim Dung said that from a young age, her son loved jigsaw puzzles.
Only taking a glimpse on TV and illustrations, he was able to assemble the details into a plane imitation or a robot precisely. Cong’s passion for natural science was also inspired by his maternal grandmother, who used to be a teacher of Mathematics and Physics.
Cong won the second prize of the city-level contest for excellent students in Grade 8 and the second prize of the provincial contest for excellent students in Grade 9. With such achievements, he was directly admitted to the 10th Physics class at the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.
In July 2022, he won the Gold Medal in the contest for excellent students from the high schools for the gifted in the northern coastal and delta region held in Hai Phong.
Talking about motivation in studying, Than The Cong shared that in recent years, he has set specific goals for each semester and academic year to fulfill. My long-term goal is to earn a scholarship to study in the US.
Nguyen Huu Hoan (12th Biology class): Dreaming of becoming a doctor
In his secondary school years, Hoan was good at all subjects, so Biology was not the first choice. In Grade 6, Hoan won the third prize in English at the city-level contest. In the 8th and 9th grades, while studying at the Le Quy Don Secondary School, Hoan won the second prize in Biology at the city level and was one of the four students with the highest scores in the entrance exam to the 10th Biology class at the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.
At the school, he really likes the teaching method of the teachers: teaching by topics, asking questions, giving situations to increase interaction to help students continuously explore knowledge and then remember it for long.
With a scientific study method and a reasonable time arrangement, he brought home a collection of Biology prizes such as the first prize in the competition for 10th graders from the high schools for the gifted and the Gold Medal at the Hung Vuong summer camp in Grade 11.
With 29.25 out of 40 points, Nguyen Huu Hoan was the first student of the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted to win the first prize in Biology at the national contest for excellent students, ranking 2nd nationally.
